New toy!

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I am now the proud owner of a shiny new (well refurbed) Canon EOS 400D. So far I have been playing around with it and just seeing what a difference having a decent camera makes. Already I have been impressed with the results that can be produced just using the presets available. Needless to say that all this technology still does not make up for an inability to use a camera properly. Hopefully, as I use it more, I will learn how to make better use of it, learn more techniques and my photos will steadily improve.

You can expect lots of photos to be posted here and on my “Flickr account”:http://www.flickr.com/photos/hereticsun Until then, here are a couple I took of Molly:

Azlan and Andy Learn to Fly

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Ok so this is quite old now, but I’ve finally gotten round to editing the video and uploading it.

A couple of years ago, Andy and I were coincidentally given flights at Airkix as presents. Here’s the video:

Showing off at Craggy Island

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Every week I head over to Craggy Island for a bit of indoor rock climbing. This time, one of my friends decided to film me during one of my daft climbs. Shame it was only filmed on a mobile phone and he got it at an angle.
Excuse the knees on the volume…

Winter Warmer 2008

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Wow! What a turnout! Despite the icy conditions and an early start yesterday morning, 70 cars turned up at Ockham Common for our annual Winter Warmer run down to Hayling Island.

Amongst those who turned up were many new faces alongside the ‘old hands’. Hopefully the ‘newbies’ will come back for more of our meets. Possibly the ‘newest’ face was that of little Kaitlyn, passengering with her dad Wispy on her first run at the tender age of three months. Good work Wispy (and Di) – get her started early ;)

Pretty soon after setting off, the phone calls started. AJK and Frimley111R had come off the road after exiting a bend to be greeted by a sheet of ice! Thankfully no damage was done, other than to their pride and whatever punishment Penny would give Andrew for getting her muddy as she helped push the car out of the very muddy grass verge. Once again luck was on our side as no damage was done to either driver or car, although Frimley111R felt unsafe to continue with his brakes so full of mud.

The remainder of the journey was much less treacherous, with the rising sun melting away the ice. Although a lot of care was needed in many places. As far as I’m aware, there were no further incidents.

Everyone remaining descended on the little cafe at Hayling Island by half 10 for a well earned breakfast to the amazement of the locals who clearly weren’t ready for 70 sports cars.

Best start planning the next run.

Advent Calendar Day 1

Saturday, December 1st, 2007

Yay! It’s December the 1st and that means I could open the first door on my LEGO advent calendar. Little bit confused about what was inside though as it contained a fireman with a Stihl saw. Does this mean I can expect a car wreck behind one of the other doors?

Seloc Activity Day

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

It’s finally done. The Seloc activity day video is now on youTube. Many thanks to Wispy for all the hard work he’s put in to make my stunningly inept driving look fun to watch. Enjoy.

She’s Trying to Kill Me

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Well it was my 30th birthday recently. It seems that Del must have taken out life insurance on me.

All started off innocently enough with what I thought was a few days away, but then on Thursday things started getting scary.

We arrived at Ellesmere Port and had a wander round the Blue Planet aquarium, spending quite a bit of time looking at the big tank which had in it various species of sharks including Nurse, Lemon, Black and White Tips and Sand Tigers, not to forget the rather large Stingrays. The largest Sand Tiger shark being 10ft long and about 30 stone:

Then she turned to me and announced that I was going in that tank!

You must be joking

But no, she wasn’t joking. A few hours later, after being briefed, kitted up and trained on how the use the scuba gear I was in at the deep end:

In at the deep end

Someone could have let me know I was being stalked:

Stalked by a sand tiger shark
Still I managed to get out in one piece and with a huge grin on my face. This was attempt number one.

So having survived attempt number one, I was told that day two was to be a little more chilled out with a trip to the Knowsley Safari Park.

What she ‘forgot’ to tell me was that the day was to begin at the safari park with an hour or so of me doing an aerial assault course:

Still up on the assault course

You get the idea. Anyway, that was attempt number 2. Survived.

With the adrenaline still flowing from the shark encounter (nevermind the assault course), I was rushed out of bed on Saturday early and shoved into the car to a dodgy converted steelworks near Rotherham.

After signing my life away for the third time in as many days, I was taken through into the main area and the guy pointed upwards saying “that’ll be you in a minute”. I just had time to look up to see a body come flying down in front of me.

Yes, having failed to kill me on the previous two attempts, she had me doing a 140ft bungy jump. Indoors.

I barely had time to realise what was going on before I was at the top of the building looking down through dry ice at the floor below. A long way below.

Bungy

So that was attempt number 3. Once again survived. I am invincible

Moving On Again

Well, it’s been over a year at “Connection 2″:http://www.connection2.com and once again it’s time for a change. I’ve been offered a job working for “Pentangle”:http://www.pentangle.co.uk/ which is owned by “Alun Rowe”:http://www.alunr.com/, a fellow “Seloccer”:http://www.seloc.org/. Things are looking promising for the future.
